Guacamole – fussy eater style
Avocados can be okay for quite a few fussy eaters.
Yes, they are green, but they are also creamy, don’t have a strong smell and texturally are often not as challenging as other vegetables.
However, my boys did not like avocados when they were little. I tried them multiple ways, but they were always a fail.
One day I made some guacamole and used 90% Philadelphia cream cheese and 10% avocado.
My eldest son gobbled it down.
My youngest was still hesitant for quite a long time but seeing my eldest eating it over and over finally got him over the line too.
We now have a lot more avocado than Philadelphia in the mixture, and both will eat all sorts of guacamole. In fact, my eldest feels it’s an essential with any Mexican dish.
However, the strategy can be an easier way to add new foods. Mix a tiny amount of one thing into a large amount of a favourite food. If it doesn’t alter the flavour or the texture much, it’s a bonus. It’s still steps forward.

Recipe
Cream cheese (use the ratio that may work for your child)
Avocado (if cream cheese is not a favourite perhaps use cream)
Put the ingredients into the food processor or blender. It creates a super smooth and creamy mix.
Lumps are often a challenge for picky eaters, so let’s eliminate that hurdle!
We add lemon juice, chopped tomatoes and finely diced onion to ours now for a flavour boost.
