Cheese on bread/crackers
This may look super simple, and it is! But depending on how picky a child is will determine where we start.
Mixing foods or putting foods together can be quite a challenge. It’s also a skill that we have to learn so practising it is important.
Using a favourite food like bread, or a cracker is a good start.
In the photo I have:
– Edam on a piece of bread. If white, packaged bread is the favourite then we begin with that.
– Grated cheese on part of a roll. Go small! If regular cheese is okay, grated is a good next step.
– Melted cheese on bread. This can be a big step for some children. If so, perhaps melting just slightly is the way to start.
– Cheese on a cracker. If that’s a stretch, then having the cheese next to the cracker is where we start. Consistently serving them together builds an association.
