Corn on the cob
For those of us who live in NZ we have short seasons for many fruit and vegetables. Therefore, when something is on the shelves we need to jump on it.
Corn on the cob is in season and is a vegetable that is more commonly accepted by fussy eaters.
It’s not green, it’s not mushy, it’s quite sweet and it’s interesting!
If you haven’t given corn a whirl – or if you haven’t tried for a while – it’s worth a go.
Remember, much of this is in the way we pitch it:
– Being hesitant and on the back foot makes a child more nervous
– Pushing them to eat anything invites push back
– Springing a surprise on anyone isn’t conducive to a positive response
Instead, making it interesting is more likely to get buy in. Can the corn be cut into thin wheels, can you use ‘corn holders’ or the less flash version, two forks? Would dipping in butter or sour cream help? What about toasting it a bit so it’s drier and crunchier?
