Home-made crackers
I spend a fair bit of time developing recipes that tick boxes for fussy eaters.
They are often a little unusual as my key parameters to take into account are things like texture, look and mouth-feel. Taste though, is also always important.
This home-made cracker recipe is one I have made with many super-selective eaters and had a win.
The video is designed to be followed by a primary-aged child either on their own, or with minimal input from a parent. I have though had multiple older children use and enjoy the independence having a simple, step-by-step recipe affords.
The recipe uses colour coded measuring cups and every step is shown in both words and pictures. It’s perfect for those who find reading a bit more of a challenge or for younger children where pictures are easier to understand.
Why home-made crackers?
Having a child make a recipe independently is really empowering and gives them enormous investment in the end result. Although this does not guarantee they will eat what they have cooked, it really does support more willingness to try.
This recipe is probably best halved if making for the first time. That’s a great maths challenge for older children and a bit of frustration for parents of younger ones ☹
I hope you are able to use this recipe with the children as it is easy and fun to do.
Following a recipe, measuring and producing food are excellent lessons in many areas, from maths to employing instructions so it definitely ticks boxes in the learning department too!
Home-made crackers for the win!
