The Cafe, this Thursday, 16th July
I was delighted to be invited onto The Café last week for an interview with Mel. It was done via remote and as happens occasionally, not everything went according to plan!
Mel could see and hear me, but I wasn’t able to see her. It made for an interesting interview as it wasn’t always obvious when it was my turn to talk, and of course I couldn’t see her response. I may have waved my arms around more than usual!
It was, however, still a great opportunity to raise awareness around some of the issues facing families where picky eating is a challenge. The longer I am involved working with parents, the more I realise that some of the biggest problems are caused by a lack of understanding and the gap in support.
The segment whizzed by and I felt like I was just getting warmed up when it was all over. Even the producer remarked that it’s such a big topic and we just barely scratched the surface. I totally agree and feel this should be something that gets far more media attention. A weekly segment on a popular show would be a great start.
Hopefully I was able to share some valuable information with parents and this has just made me more determined to look for ways that I can raise awareness as to how much of an impact having a picky eater makes in the lives of families.
Judith is mum to two boys, a tween and a teen and is the author of Creating Confident Eaters. My dream is that every child is able to approach food from a place of safety and joy, not fear.
I delight in showing parents how to get picky eaters eating in simple, gentle, practical steps that anyone can master. I graduated from Cambridge University and have qualifications in nutrition, parent education and am a trained telephone support worker for ParentHelpline. I am currently working towards a Masters degree in Psychology. I would love to understand more of the “why” behind fussy eating and to eventually spearhead research in this area.
