Choc avocado sauce

Chocolate sauce can be a fabulous way to support a fussy eater to eat something different or eat a food a little more comfortably.

I have used avocado as the base in this recipe, but you can make a simpler one without.

It also has a sweetener in it, but I have included a version with banana instead too.

Dipping fruit into a choc dip can be a way to encourage a child to:

Eat more fruit
Eat new fruit
Accept fruit in a different way (eg. sliced instead of whole)

Choc sauce can also be used to encourage eating of nuts, seeds, raisins, or other foods. Modelling dipping, using tweezers or cocktail sticks (age appropriately) can make it lots of fun.

I discovered what a great tool it was when a dad said to me that his son would eat peanuts, but only as peanut M & M’s.

If having choc sauce means our child can eat a new food, why not?

Once we can eat something, we can eat it.

Gradually the support can be removed.

Recipe – 1
½ ripe avocado
1/8 cup of cocoa powder + 1 hpd tsp
1/8 cup sweetener (I used honey)
¾ tsp vanilla
Pinch salt
1 Dst sp milk/water (add extra to make runnier)
– Place in food processor and whiz together

Recipe – 2
½ ripe avocado
½ ripe banana (I used a frozen one)
1 hpd tsp cream cheese
2 tsp cocoa powder
Add sweetener if you wish to taste
– Place in food processor and whiz together
