Apple turnovers

Best thing I’ve baked according to my teen!

Unbeknownst to me, apple turnovers are his first choice from the bakery at the supermarket when he and his friends drop in

I gave him the first to test and he said the filling was fantastic, way better than the commercial one

Making these with pre-made pastry would be super simple
And it’s a great way to get more fruit eaten

Also, a cool activity for children

Recipe – Apple turnover

Pastry (or use prepared)
2 cups flour
2/3 cup grated butter
8 tbs cold water
Apple filling
1 diced apple (I used a sweet red one)
1/2 tsp sugar (more to taste)
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1 dst sp butter melted
For egg wash
1 egg

Method

Heat oven to 205°
Pastry
Add grated butter to flour and mash through with a fork
Add salt and sugar
Add water one spoon at a time
Make a dough ball and refrigerate
Filling
Dice an apple
Add the sugar and cinnamon and mix well
Add the butter and combine
Turnovers
Divide the pastry dough into two balls
Roll each out thinly and cut into large squares
Place filling into the middle of each square
Fold over into a triangle, crimp edges with a fork to seal
Brush with egg wash
Bake approx. 15 mins on tray until golden
